Reset and rebuild lunchtime talk

Rebuilding self-belief when recruitment or work feels brutal

A rejected application, unsuccessful interview, redundancy, lost contract, difficult manager, or failed project can affect much more than a single outcome. It can knock confidence, disrupt routine, and make it harder to see your own value clearly.

This session offers a grounded approach to rebuilding confidence after real setbacks. It does not pretend that positive thinking alone solves difficult circumstances. Instead, it focuses on separating an event from your identity, learning what can be learned, and rebuilding belief through evidence, support, and manageable action.

We will explore:

  • Why setbacks can feel so personal and destabilising
  • How to distinguish a difficult outcome from a verdict on your worth or capability
  • The role of small completed actions in rebuilding confidence
  • A practical recovery approach: pause, review, learn and re-engage
  • How to identify support and recognise progress while you rebuild

You will leave with a simple confidence-recovery plan and one action to take within the next 48 hours.

Part four of the Reset and Rebuild lunchtime series. It brings together the themes of the series: understanding stress, building sustainable routines, challenging self-doubt, and taking purposeful steps towards work and income.
